Robotics Update

by Madeleine (Class of 2012)

Whew, I cannot believe that our 2012 robotics build season has already come to an end! It seems like only yesterday that we attended the FIRST national kick off presentation at The Ohio State University. There it was revealed to us the task that our robot had to complete. We found out that we had to build a robot that would pick up basketballs and shoot them into hoops and then balance on spring loaded boards. You can check the game animation here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDL-OLNcZyw) if you want to learn more about the competition itself! It was a very exciting challenge and we have been working very hard over the past six weeks to make a robot that can complete both of these tasks.

Just last week we finished up work on the robot that we will compete with in Cleveland. The robot looks absolutely amazing- it has a conveyor belt that is made of yellow tubing and a shooting mechanism that shoots the basketballs. Hopefully everything will go as planned and we will have plenty of time to trouble shoot any problems that we run in to. I cannot wait to see how our robot performs at our competition at the end of March! I will post a photo of the completed robot from competition so that you all can see what we have been working on so hard over this season!
